Big Bear’s Pizza Obsession and Pizza Hut’s New Flavor Lineup

My husband, BigBear, has long been a devoted pizza lover. Even though I managed to introduce him to new favorites like steamed spinach and chicken pineapple curry, pizza remains his go-to. If ever there’s uncertainty about dinner, “pizza” is always the answer. He might have it multiple nights in a row, and honestly, I don’t argue—pizza is simply delicious.

When we lived out in the country, frozen pizzas were a staple. Since moving to the city, delivery options opened up and that convenience has only fueled his passion. During the chaos of moving and renovating our new house—stripping wallpaper, replacing carpet, repainting and refinishing floors—BigBear and his cousin often ordered pizza while working late. For a while it seemed like every visit to the new place revealed at least one pizza box. Now, years later, he still browses the “Create Your Own Pizza” menu on his phone when we decide what to eat.

I usually let him take the lead on ordering. He’s in charge of his pizza choices and I rarely suggest changes—except when a new menu tempts me. Recently we were invited to try Pizza Hut’s refreshed “Flavor of Now” menu, which offers new toppings, sauces and crust flavors. I was more than happy to join the ordering discussion and slip in a few preferences of my own.

The new menu includes five premium toppings, six bold sauces and a variety of crust flavors that let you build a pizza to suit any taste. The new toppings are:

  • Peruvian Cherry Peppers
  • Classic Meatballs
  • Premium Salami
  • Sliced Banana Peppers
  • Fresh Spinach

Six bold sauces now available:

  • Classic Marinara
  • Premium Crushed Tomato
  • Honey Sriracha
  • Barbecue
  • Buffalo
  • Creamy Garlic Parmesan

New crust flavor options expand the possibilities even further. Some of the standout crust flavors include:

  • Hut Favorite – garlic buttery blend with grated Parmesan and Italian herbs
  • Toasted Parmesan – all-natural Parmesan toasted to perfection
  • Salted Pretzel – transforms the crust edge into a soft pretzel
  • Honey Sriracha – a sweet-heat glaze of honey and red chilies
  • Fiery Red Pepper – cayenne and crushed red pepper for heat
  • Toasted Cheddar – shredded cheddar baked on for a toasty finish
  • Toasted Asiago – savory Asiago for a unique toasted flavor
  • Garlic Buttery Blend – garlic butter with oregano, parsley and basil

With these choices, you can create a pizza that satisfies everyone at the table. For our order we chose two large pan pizzas—one tailored to BigBear’s hearty preferences and one with my favorite additions of mushrooms and fresh spinach.

Both pizzas were a hit. The new toppings and crust flavors added noticeable character, and the fresh spinach was a perfect, lighter contrast to the savory meats and cheeses. Two pizzas were plenty for us, and they disappeared quickly.
