Get into the spirit of Halloween with this Witches Brew Cocktail Punch. Bright pomegranate and tart lemon combine with blueberry liqueur and blanco tequila (or vodka) for a fruity, balanced spiked punch. Serve it as a dramatic batch for a crowd—add a chunk of dry ice for fogging effect—or make individual shaken cocktails for a smaller gathering. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing Halloween drink that’s sweet, tart, and refreshingly boozy.

Halloween is the perfect excuse for costumes, glittery decorations, and themed drinks. Cocktail punch is my go-to for parties because it’s fast to make and serves a crowd with minimal fuss. This recipe is inspired by a smoky punch I made in culinary school and I like to finish the batch with dry ice for a witchy, smoky presentation.
For the spiked base choose blanco (silver) tequila for a clean agave note that complements the fruit flavors; mezcal can be used if you want smokiness. If tequila isn’t your thing, vodka works just as well. The rest of the punch comes together with blueberry liqueur, unsweetened pomegranate juice, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and club soda for a light fizz.
Tequila (or vodka!)

Chill all ingredients before assembling so the punch is cold without needing standard ice, which would dilute it. Dry ice cools while producing fog because it sublimates from solid to gas without adding water, so it’s useful when you want dramatic effect without watering down the flavor.
Batch cocktail
This recipe is written both as a party-sized batch and as an individual cocktail. If you’re hosting, make the batch version in a punch bowl or large pitcher to streamline service. For smaller gatherings, mix single drinks in a shaker.

Use a 3-inch piece of dry ice for a punch bowl; a single chunk will smoke for about 10–15 minutes. Keep extras on hand so you can add more as the effect fades.
Individual drink (rocks glass)
- Add the simple syrup, tequila (or vodka), blueberry liqueur, pomegranate juice, and fresh lemon juice to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice.
- Shake until the shaker is frosty, about 30 seconds, then strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Top with club soda, stir gently, and serve.

Make-ahead
To prepare the punch ahead of time, combine everything except the club soda. Cover and refrigerate for up to two days. Add the club soda just before serving to preserve fizz. Leftover punch will keep for a couple of days but will lose carbonation and taste best when fresh.
How to use dry ice in drinks
For a punch bowl effect, plan on 1–2 pounds of dry ice total so you can add chunks as needed. Use protective gear and handle dry ice with care.
- Break the dry ice into smaller pieces just before serving. Wear gloves and safety goggles when handling.
- Use tongs to place a 2–4 inch chunk into the punch bowl. It will immediately start to fog.
- Add more chunks as the fog dissipates to maintain the effect. Use a ladle to serve; do not pour the dry ice into individual glasses.

Using dry ice safely
Dry ice creates a great visual but must be used responsibly:
- Never touch dry ice with bare hands—use tongs and wear gloves and safety glasses. Direct contact can cause frostbite.
- Buy dry ice close to when you’ll use it (1–2 hours prior) and store it in a cooler with the lid open. Do not store it in a sealed container or the pressure build-up can be dangerous.
- Keep dry ice away from children and pets and never ingest it. Wait until all fogging has stopped before drinking from a cup that contained dry ice.

Notes
Never touch or ingest dry ice; it can cause severe burns or frostbite. Wait for all fogging to stop before drinking from cups that contained dry ice.
For a single cocktail, strain over a large ice cube to keep it colder longer.
To make simple syrup: combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan, bring to a simmer until the sugar dissolves, then cool completely before using.
