The Meaning and Story Behind the Name

Welcome — and thanks for visiting to learn the story behind the blog name Cuts and Crumbles!

I launched this food blog in 2016 after spending time brainstorming a name that would capture the spirit and goals of my project. I wanted a title that reflected both a focus on healthier cooking and an honest, down-to-earth approach to food.

The idea behind the name is simple. The “Cuts” represent my effort to create flavorful recipes that reduce calories and make healthier choices approachable. I set out to develop a collection of simple, delicious, low-calorie dishes that still deliver on taste. The “Crumbles” nod to the inevitable mistakes, experiments, and indulgences along the way — I started as a novice in cooking, photography, and blogging, so there were plenty of trials, errors, and delightful accidents.

Although my main emphasis is on healthified recipes, I’m not perfect and my diet isn’t either. I wanted the blog to reflect that balance, so I occasionally share richer, indulgent recipes that I genuinely love. For readers focused on lighter options, the healthier recipes are grouped under THE CUTS, while the more decadent or indulgent dishes are grouped under THE CRUMBLES.

(PS: Recipes in The Cuts include full nutritional information to help you track calories and macronutrients. The Crumbles recipes do not include nutrition details — sometimes it’s better to just enjoy the treat.)

There’s also a third section on the blog called “The BBQ Brothers.” Although part of the Cuts and Crumbles site, this category features recipes written and developed by my husband and my brother-in-law, both of whom are passionate grill masters. Their recipes and tips focus on barbecuing and grilling; they’ve even put together a beginner’s guide for anyone wanting to get started with grilling.

That’s the origin of the name Cuts and Crumbles: a commitment to healthier cooking, a willingness to embrace culinary missteps, and a celebration of the occasional indulgence. Thanks for reading! If you’d like to know more about me, visit the About Caitlin page on the blog.
