Although autumn approaches, there’s still time to savor summer peaches. A perfectly ripe peach is delicious eaten by hand or sliced over yogurt for breakfast. For dessert, traditional options like peach crisps, pies, crumbles and cobblers are always welcome, but sometimes you want something lighter—an elegant, healthier take on peaches and cream. That thought lingered as I looked at a bowl of fresh peaches from the farmer’s market.
I was inspired by an apricot compote I’d seen in Bon Appétit and nearly started a peach compote, when I remembered a steamed-fruit recipe from a Chinese cookbook. Chinese desserts tend to be less sweet, and steaming is a gentle, healthy way to prepare fruit without a sugary poaching liquid.
I searched my collection and found “Steamed Peaches with Honey Dates” in Eileen Yin-Fei Lo’s The Chinese Kitchen. Her method trimmed just the tops, removed pits, and cored the fruit before steaming with dark brown sugar and preserved Chinese dates.
I adapted the technique by halving the peaches, sprinkling them with jaggery sugar and a few slivers of fresh ginger, then steaming the halves for about 30 minutes. As they cooked, a sweet pink juice collected in the bowls, creating a natural, concentrated peach syrup that makes a lovely topping.
I had a sample of So Delicious Dairy Free Greek Style Cultured Coconut Milk Yogurt, due to hit stores this fall, and a spoonful of the Plain or Vanilla version paired beautifully with the Steamed Ginger Peaches. The thick, creamy yogurt complemented the tender, sweet fruit—an elegant, rich-tasting dessert that still feels light and wholesome.

So Delicious Plain Greek Style Coconut Milk Yogurt is a dairy-free alternative suitable for vegans and anyone avoiding dairy. While its nutrition profile differs from dairy Greek yogurt—less protein and slightly more sodium—it offers a notable amount of fiber per serving. The line includes plain plus flavors such as blueberry, chocolate, raspberry, strawberry, and vanilla.
My youngest son, who was found to be allergic to dairy last December, has missed thick, creamy Greek yogurt. He loved the So Delicious coconut-based version, calling it “so creamy.” Previously he found other non-dairy yogurts too thin for his taste, so this new texture will make school lunches and snacks much easier to pack.
I received complimentary samples of So Delicious Greek Style Coconut Milk Yogurt to try. I was not compensated for this post, and the opinions expressed are my own.
