The Easiest Red Pasta Sauce
Print Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 package pasta, cooked according to package directions drained and set aside
- 1 medium onion finely diced
- 2 tsp oil
- 2 garlic minced
- 8 oz tomato sauce
- 3 Tbsp tomato paste
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 handfuls shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
-
Heat the oil in a large skillet over low heat. Add the diced onion and cook slowly for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion turns soft and lightly caramelized. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 2–3 minutes, taking care not to let the garlic burn.
-
Stir in the tomato sauce and tomato paste. Season with salt and pepper, mix thoroughly, and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for several minutes so the flavors meld—about 5–10 minutes is sufficient for this quick sauce.
-
Add the cooked, drained pasta to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce. If you like a creamier finish, stir in the shredded cheese now so it melts into the hot pasta. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
-
If you are not serving immediately, transfer the pasta and sauce to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze portions for longer storage. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave, adding a splash of water or olive oil if the sauce has thickened.
-
Serve hot, garnish as desired with extra cheese or fresh herbs, and enjoy a simple, satisfying meal.
