Garlicky Kale Chips

We make garlicky kale chips two to three times a week — they’re that easy and addictive. I also love sharing them with friends because everyone should get a taste of this crunchy goodness.

My mom’s garden has been overflowing with kale lately (mine didn’t do so well this season), so we’ve had plenty on hand to experiment with. No complaints here — kale for days!

Kale Wins

Kale is my top choice among dark leafy greens. I enjoy it raw, cooked, and especially when it’s crisped up into chips. It’s rich in vitamin K, A and C, manganese, copper, vitamin B6 and fiber, and it also provides calcium, potassium and iron. In short, kale is a nutrition powerhouse.

The best reason to make these garlicky kale chips? They taste incredible. Try them and you’ll see.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch kale, leaves removed from the stems and ripped into pieces
  • 2 tsp avocado oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic granules
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C). Spread the torn kale pieces on a large rimmed baking sheet so they lie in a single layer as much as possible. Drizzle the avocado oil over the kale and massage it into each piece. Sprinkle the sea salt, garlic granules and pepper over the kale and toss to coat evenly.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, then stir or turn the kale. Continue baking for another 10 minutes, stir again, and then keep checking every 5 minutes, stirring as needed. The chips are ready when they are dry, crispy, and beginning to turn golden brown. If your pan is crowded this can take longer; expect about 30–40 minutes total baking time.
